You're
in the optical business, not the plumbing business.
All of our equipment cuts dry, so
you can set up virtually anywhere. There's no coolant disposal
hassle or expense.
When glass was the only material used
for making eyeglass lenses, the most effective way to edge
or glaze was with a diamond wheel and flood coolant. Now that
lens technology has moved almost wholly away from glass that
method is no longer preferred for the newer lens materials.
Optronics' method of
dry edging uses a carbide steel blade to cut a lens to size
and shape. The sharpness and angle of the cutting blade is
much more effective and accurate for processing plastic, Polycarbonate
and Trivex. These materials can gum up a conventional diamond
wheeled edger. Polishing is an option with the Optronics dry
patternless edger and if desired is accomplished through a
moistened diamond imbedded polishing hub that will effectively
polish the lens without removing material.
